Empire Teams up with MACC for Food Charity Competition, bringing back what used to be an annual event. Empire’s MACC Charities Food Charity Competition commenced in early February this year.
As in the past, Empire pinned its various departments against one another in a race to generate the most charitable donations by weight, per department. Acceptable donations included non-perishable foods, cleaning supplies, personal and childcare items, and cash which was counted as a separate value and converted into a donation weight. In this case, every $1.00 donated equated to 1/2 pound of donated goods. The outcome, posted on March 3rd, shattered previous records:
According to Nick Pescosolido, Empire’s Executive Vice President of Operations:
Gross Weight: our Assembly Department collected over 1,866 pounds of food. Assembly was also highly thoughtful in its selection of goods, focusing on the volume of canned goods used in multiple meals.
Gross Dollars: our Warehouse raised $2,144 for MACC. From individuals giving $5 to over $500, their generosity deserves recognition and praise.
Overall Department: The original arrangement was to split the total goods by the total number of people in the department. With this calculation, our Olcott St. Office contributed the most pounds per person, winning the overall department award.
Empire also matched the overall dollar-amount, bringing the grand total to $11,166 raised, on top of the over 3,808 pounds of food and supplies collected, all for MACC. As Nick echoed in a company email, ‘It’s impressive what pipe hangers can do!’
Empire was proud to invite MACC to their quarterly company-wide Family Meeting on April, 24th to talk about their organization and to present them with the cash portion of the donation. Good work, Everyone!
